The Essence: Adventure with Purpose
My cycling journeys are more than just a chronicle of travels; they are testaments to the transformative power of adventure intertwined with a commitment to sustainability and self-discovery. Through my global cycling expeditions, I aim to embody the spirit of exploration and the responsibility to leave the world better than I found it. My hope is that these journeys serve as inspiring narratives of courage, endurance, and environmental advocacy.
At the heart of my journeys is the philosophy of cycling as a medium for connection—connection with the planet, with communities, and with myself. My flagship project, Climate Zero, exemplifies this ethos. Spanning from 54° North in Cartwright, Labrador, to 54° South in Ushuaia, Argentina, the expedition was not just a physical challenge but also a mission of ecological stewardship. By planting 5,000 trees in Costa Rica to offset the carbon footprint of the first 52 years of my life, I proved that adventure can coexist with environmental consciousness.
Other endeavors, such as Europa 360 and Connecting My Grandfathers, highlight my dedication to storytelling through exploration. These journeys are rich with cultural engagement and personal reflection, resonating deeply with those who dream of venturing beyond their comfort zones. My expeditions are not about conquering terrain but about discovering the stories embedded in the landscapes and the people who inhabit them.
Beyond the adventures, my cycling platform offers services that extend my philosophy to others. As a Lifestyle Coach, Adventure Guide, and Mentor, I share my knowledge and experiences to empower individuals to pursue their own paths of growth and fulfillment. My guidance is rooted in the belief that the lessons learned on the road—resilience, adaptability, and mindfulness—are invaluable in everyday life.
My digital presence amplifies my impact, bringing my journeys to a global audience. Through social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, I share vivid travelogues, practical tips, and motivational insights. My storytelling invites followers to not only witness my adventures but also to find inspiration to embark on their own.
Each of my cycling journeys serves as a beacon for those who seek meaning through motion. They capture the essence of living purposefully, balancing the thrill of adventure with a deep respect for the environment. My story reminds us that every journey, no matter how grand or humble, holds the potential to create positive change—both in the world and within ourselves.

Climate Zero. 54° North to 54° South by Bicycle.
Following an extensive and challenging prelude—16 days by bike and 2 by ship across vast stretches of wilderness in Quebec and Labrador, Canada—I arrived in Cartwright, Labrador, near 54° north latitude. This marked the official starting point for my most ambitious bicycle journey to date: Climate Zero, 54° north to 54° south by bicycle.
On September 11, 2023, just two days after reaching Cartwright, I began cycling south toward Ushuaia, Argentina, often referred to as “the end of the world,” located at 54° south latitude. By the end of February 2024, through a partnership with Maderas Rainforest Conservancy, I had planted 5,000 trees in Costa Rica. This milestone fulfilled the first of two primary goals for the journey: to plant enough trees to offset my 52-year (my age at departure) carbon footprint, achieving Climate Zero.
Months later, on June 20, 2024—284 days after departing Cartwright—I achieved the second goal of the tour: completing a continuous bicycle transect of the Americas from 54° north to 54° south. The journey leading to Ushuaia was epic in scale, surpassing all of my expectations.

Touring by Boot, Boat, Motorcycle, and Bicycle: a brief history
Depending on the threshold of how a person might define a "tour", by a minimum number of days, etc, one could make the argument that I began touring as a youngster, with or without shoes, and primarily in the forests and wetlands that were in walking or cycling distance from my childhood home in Franklin, Massachusetts. My childhood tours, expressed from as far back as I can recall, roughly age six years old until adolescents, may have been short but they were frequent and rich with the satisfaction a person feels when they've stepped outside of their comfort zone, towards a wanderlust, in my case, that seemed then and now to be my primary mover. Click here for many more details about my touring history.
Travelogues
My journeys by bicycle are often recorded, here on my webpage, in detailed travelogues including images and maps such as this one from 2019, a 4400 mile, 63-day adventure from Duncansby Head, Scotland to Istanbul, Turkey by bicycle. Each of these tours were motivated, assembled, and completed based, in part, on inspiration from my previous touring experiences by boot, boat, and motorcycle. The spirit of those earlier journeys, by alternative means, is in plain view, as a watermark, behind my most recent travel stories and experiences. And since those early days, I've added much more to my sources of inspiration including adventures by bicycle written about by the late Dervla Murphy.
Europa 360: Day 86, thoughts from the conclusion of my 2022 tour.
Europa 360 began as a dream, one that I nurtured and refined over five years before arriving in Barcelona on a red-eye flight on 22 August 2022 to begin the tour. It was an ambitious goal—my most challenging itinerary to date—and required daily perseverance, overcoming countless physical and mental challenges along the way.
Doing the work was often difficult, and on this 84-day bicycle journey, there were many tough moments. Yet, those challenges became pathways to something greater. When we push ourselves beyond our limits, we discover a deep well of resilience and potential. The farther we go, the more treasures we uncover. This journey, built on a lifetime of adventures by boot, boat, motorcycle, and bicycle, has deepened my conviction that life truly begins at the edge of our comfort zone.
There is so much more to discover and celebrate about yourself beyond that boundary. I encourage you to venture there—to the edge and beyond. Take small steps, and if fear arises, embrace it. Imagine a door opening nearby, leading to limitless opportunities. Step through, look around, smile, and breathe deeply. This is your story—unique and beautiful—and only you can make it real.
My entire video journal--212 individual recordings spanning 18 countries from my 84-day Europa 360 bicycle journey, beginning and ending in Barcelona—is now available as a single playlist on my YouTube channel. Additionally, I’ve created a second Europa 360 playlist featuring video footage captured with my GoPro Hero 9. During this journey, I recorded over 1 TB of 4K footage on the GoPro, so there’s much more content to come on that playlist.

Somewhere between the ether and consciousness, doing the work on an epic journey, Climate Zero, 54° north to 54° south, a complete transect of North, Central, and South America by bicycle to bring awareness to the threat of climate change and demonstrate that all of us can make a difference and even zero-out our lifetime carbon contributions to the atmosphere.
