Below is a list of training camps that I've completed to date, all of them to build fitness for my traiing and endurance / cross-country racing goals and ambitions. The first was on the Big Island of Hawaii in 2015; followed by back-to-back trips to Gran Canaria and Mallorca, Spain, in Jan-March 2018 when I was living part of the year in Hamburg, Germany; and most recently, an extended camp in Tucson, Arizona. I've inserted a contemporaneous blog-entry for the Hawaii and Spain camps, you'll find more details by searching the list of clickable CATEGORIES that I've embedded in on my blog page. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send me an email ...
Tucson, Arizona, USA
6 November 2020 - 31 March 2021 My arrival to Tucson on 6 Nov came just weeks after the conclusion (13 Oct) of my latest autumn cycling tour, Flagstaff to Portland By Bicycle. Despite exceptional hospitality by two friends, and plenty of time to rest, when I arrived to Tucson I was still feeling fatigue from the effort it took to cycle to Portland and the 2020 racing season. I spent November settling-in, especially getting to know the paved bike trails and roads, gravel and single tracks. By 30 Nov, I was feeling good about rebooting training and I continue to feel good as of this writing on 15 February 2021. I'll return to Durango on 1 April and likely return following a TBA autumn tour. I'm already thinking about another training camp in Tucson in 2022 or a new experience in Colombia. |

6 January - 6 February 2015 Highlights: Sea to Summit to Sea, Waipio to Hawi Out & Back via Mud Lane, Waipio Valley In & Out Blog-entry, 18 April 2015: Much has been happening over the last four months at Andre Breton Racing. Below I want to catch-up anyone that might be following my activities. In particular, I want to introduce my new coach, Fort Collins resident Pat Nash; recollect the highlights from four weeks of training on the Big Island of Hawaii including an all day rendezvous with Mauna Kea ... 3-28 February 2017 Highlight: Mallorca 312 (the course, not the race) Blog-entry, 27 June 2017: From my winter base camp perspective, gazing-out the window from the third floor of an old brownstone on the Bismarckstrassa in Hamburg, Germany, it has been easy for my mind to slip comfortably into day-dreams framed by relatively nearby places where a motivated cyclist could, sensibly, spend part of the winter ... Gran Canaria, Spain
16 January to 1 February 2018 Highlights: Ayacata, Wilco Kelderman Flyby, Valley of Tears, Pico de las Nieves (image, left, is from this adventure). Blog Entry, 11 June 2018: Despite common sense, intuition, and logic, hard work does not guarantee improvement in sport especially as an athlete accumulates years of experience. As that experience approaches about 7-10 years, a hard working / training / recovering athlete transitions to marginal gains for the same effort that delivered much larger gains in the past. Sadly, these marginal gains may not even keep pace with losses, due to aging, illness, poor nutrition, etc, during the same period. Six years into my cycling and racing history (2013-present), at 47 y.o., aging is a significant factor nipping away at my physiological capacities ... [READ MORE]. |
Mallorca, Spain
20 February to 12 March 2018 Highlights: Sóller, Wonderland Never Disappoints, Serra de Tramuntana. Blog Entry, 11 June 2018: In early December, I was still planning two trips to Spain to add climbing / elevation adaptation blocks to my winter training program. I traveled to Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, from 16 Jan to 1 Feb; and later, to Mallorca from 20 Feb to 12 March. When in Spain my priority was climb, climb, climb, no gym, occasionally stretching, always eating. I took days off to work and recover. I did perform some interval sessions ... [READ MORE]. |
